unusual seatweaving material

Need some help here. A customer brought a child's chair from the '40's the has 1/2" flat material which looks to be kraft paper. It is light brown with a darker center. Anyone seen this and where can I get it?

  1. Hi Dick, I don't like the paper fibre splint, and will ask the customer if they would allow me to use the "real" splint on their chairs. I think it is so much prettier, and may last longer. Only other thing is that you may have to stain it, if they wish. Just my humble opinion !!!
    Your profile is awesome !!

  2. T. Gamglin give a site that has it. Looks just like the tape on a chair I have. A child's oak rocker. It has a wood grain to it.

  3. H. H. Perkins out of Connecticut has that material, you actually shellac it when done. It is not material that I prefer but it holds up pretty good as long as it's shellaced and I am a firm believer of replacing what was originally on there if that was the original material unless if they really want to use something different.
